Lakou Mizik at Big Night
Friday, November 21, 2014 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Location: Little Haiti Cultural Center
Lakou Mizik is a Haitian roots and soul revue that melds vodou, twoubadou and rara into a funky bouyon stew of musical goodness. A collaboration to bring together old-school legends (including Sanba Zao, Steeve Valcourt and Allen Juste) and young artists, much as the Buena Vista Social Project did with Cuban music, this project began with a focus on the recording of a new album of traditional Haitian music and the stories of the musicians involved. As a live group, Lakou Mizik offers unique portal to experience the cultural strength and beauty of Haiti
Opening set by Little Haiti-based 7-member folkloric music and dance group Zetwal Kreyol; between sets DJ Mack.
In the gallery, a last chance to see the Local Artists V Exhibition.
Lakou Mizik will also perform on Sunday November 23 at the Miami International Book Fair’s live stage at 4pm.
The night will featuring delicious kreyol cuisine from Leela’s Lakay, and more.
The hands-on art activities for kids are sponsored by Positive Impact Foundation / Kose Famn and Bass Museum of Art.
